Made out this morning at 8:00 a.m. on a tropical 33 degree morning. Water temp of 47. Headed to my usual perch spot in front of the west side light house, mouth of the Cuyahoga. Had been out twice in the past 2 weeks prior to this. Caught 8 the one trip in about 4 hours. And was skunked the second trip a few days later. This morning was the kind of morning you dream about. Tons of boats on the water(50 trailers the in the lot) but only myself and one other boat perching.ππ»Had my first one (12&3/4 inches and little over a pound) in 5 min. Continued to catch one every 6-7 min till my limit of 10 was reached. They ranged from 9-12&3/4 inches and plump!
I figured since I had my perch Iβd try my hand at trolling. Set out two bandits at 50-60 ft set back, and a pink lemonade perfect 10 set at 30 ft back a one ounce snap weight and 30 more feet. Trolled 1.8 to 2.0 MPH. Took about 45 min and I picked up a 22&1/2β, 3.4lb walleye on the pink lemonade perfect 10. People say walleye fishing is boring. They donβt fight like some other fish. Not the way I do it. Try landing a 3lb+ walleye solo while moving in a 14β boat without tangling the other 2 lines. Itβs a rush when you get that net in the boat with the fish successfully!! Battery was getting low on the trolling motor so I called it after about an hour and a half of trolling. Off the water by 11:00 a.m.
Learned back at the dock my troll was a little fast guys saying 1.5-1.8 mph. Hope to try again tomorrow morning.
AMAZING SIDE NOTE: Andy (THE FROGMAN) is such a good fisherman he knew of my success before I even share it!!!ππ€£ππ€£

Great catching J, and awesome report. Sounds like a chilly but fun day buddy. What, no lid for the minnow bucket? They would have been all over the seat if I was driving, LOL. Good luck tomorrow my friend.

Didnβt have time to grab the good minnow bucket out of the boat. Cover was on. Just grabbed first bucket I saw and sped to the bait shop when I realized they closed in 10 min and didnβt open till 9:00 the next day.

Ah Ha, I see your dilemma buddy, I knew there must be a good reason.
Not so hard to keep minnows alive this time of year when the waters cold.
How long has the perch limit been 10.
Or is that a personal limit. Anyway good catch.

10 in the Central basin of Erie where I live. 30 in the west and east basin. Been that way for at least the last 3 years.

Over 50yrs ago I lived in the Lorain area. Never did fish the lake. Your picture of lake minnows reminded me of how thin I thought they appeared compared to minnows used in inland lakes. I did go to L&K restaurant and buy a bucket full of perch filets every once in a while. $2.00. Very good. Now I live in NE Central Ohio and think about going to Huron and fish bright night for walleye. lol. Human nature I guess!!
Thanks for sharing....Awesome catch and awesome pictures!
