Hi Friends. It's been way too long again since I've been on here. I hope all are doing well and that you have a great Thanksgiving. We have so much to be grateful for. Family, friends and fishing are at the top of my list.

I didn't fish near enough this summer, but I did have some really great times. I got to be with 2 different people when they caught their very first fish in their lives. Both were really nice trout, ones they may fish many years before getting another like them.

I went out a few weeks ago. I couldn't find anyone that was available to go with me, so I went alone. I drove up into the mountains and decided I'd try 3 or 4 lakes. I started at one that's right off the road. I caught one within the first 10 minutes. I caught 4 or 5 little ones and decided to move to another lake. I went up the road a mile or so and stopped another lake right off the road. There's a place to park and a path right to the edge of the lake. I didn't realize there was a picnic table there and a family was having a picnic. I walked down and asked if they minded if I fished there or if they were planning on fishing it. They were just there to eat lunch and said they didn't mind if I fished. I went and got my stuff, and started fishing. I got a bite farily quickly, and heard them say something about me catching a fish. There was just a man and a woman there with six or seven kids. I guess some of the kids were cousins. Long story shorter, the youngest of the kids came over and looked at the fish. Either he asked if he could try or I asked if he wanted to try. He said he did and so I cast out for him and let him fish. He got two or three bites, but didn't land one for a while. The other kids had run off and were playing, but when the youngest one caught one, they all wanted a try. I had 4 rods with me, so I spent the next couple hours putting worms on hooks and taking fish off for the kids. I was a bit worried about hijacking their picnic, but the parents said they didn't mind. The dad had his fishing license with him, but hadn't brought any fishing gear. These kids were all probably between about 5 and 12. They were so well behaved, were good about taking turns, not arguing about whose turn it was. Every one of them caught at least one fish. It was such a fun time for me, and I think the kids had a great time. I offered to let them take the fish I kept, but they didn't want them.

By the time they left, it was getting to be time to go. Fishing with those kids turned a nice day of fishing into a great day. Turns out, I really like helping other people catch fish. Besides that, I took some of the best pictures I've ever taken. I've included one picture from my previous fishing trip. I took a friend that hadn't been fishing for quite a while. We had a great day, we limited out, and he caught more fish than I think he ever has. All in all, it was a great summer and fall for me. I'm getting ready for ice fishing. I think we're going to take the teenagers from church out on the ice the day after Christmas, assuming the ice cooperates.

Happy Thanksgiving to you too Fred! I missed reading about all the bass you caught this year. I hope it was good luck for you because I wasn't putting pressure on you to continue to dominate. I'm going to get better about carving some time out of my days to keep in touch with my friends here. Stay well my friend!

It was so much fun for me, they may have changed my life! I was worried that the parents might think I was some creepy old man, but it was like taking my grandkids fishing for me. It was really fun. I may have to find a way to take kids that don't get to go fishing out. I've introduced the kids from church to ice fishing. Some of them have loved it, even if they haven't caught anything yet.

What a great story, Stuco! You were a true blessing to that family that day. My guess is, from the tone of your writing, you had as much fun as that family and those kids had! You’re a true fisherman and I can tell you love sharing our wonderful sport with all people. God Bless you my friend and be careful on that ice fishing trip. PS. Your pictures of those lakes are absolutely beautiful. You’re fortunate to have such a wonderful area to fish.

Thanks jepolt. I'm pretty sure I enjoyed it more than they did. I've been blessed to be able to fish in such beautiful places so close to home. I do love sharing those blessings.

Thank you! It's nice to chat with you as well. You clearly feel the same way I do. I haven't been fishing for that many years, but I've gotten so much help from fishermen and women. It's one of the many things I like about it.

Thanks! I grew up in Southern California and lived there until my mid thirties. I thought the same you do. I’ve learned, as a friend of a friend says, there are no cold days, only bad equipment. That said, if you find yourself here in July, let me know and we’ll go up there and catch some trout!
