A good buddy use to fish the waterbody you mentioned. His technique was cut bait or scented night crawlers. He also would cast to where he thought they would bite. He left his open face spinning reel open after reeling in all the slack. After the fish start to bite…. Leave it open awhile and let them go swim or chew awhile before you close the bale and set the hook. There are big channel cats there. Good luck.
You are probably aware. Channel Cats will feed 24 hours a day but will hunt in shallow waters during the dark more. Once you start fishing a location ( deep is good ) patience will help. The scent your bait adds to the area will help the longer you stay. We use to take a milk jug and soak our cut bait in a bunch of scented liquid.

Honestly for scented bait I use WD 40 let it soak over night and it works. Sounds crazy but it does work.
I've heard that WD 40 has fish oil in it.

It used to I have been told that they don’t do that anymore. Does anyone know for sure??? It does still work though not as good as it used to.
