Good morning, Thanksgiving week, wishing you all a great one. I have so much to be thankful for . Yesterday my bro n law hit our sweet fishing spot. Sunny and some wind but it sure was fun. While fishing we saw the Marines setting up for a burial at sea. Marines run deep in our families. It was a great honor to stand with our fishing caps over our hearts to the tune of taps and folding of the flag 🇺🇸. He caught a few spotties and I caught a huge jacksmelt along with a puppy spottie. I believe it's the biggest smelt I've ever caught being over a pound . We got there around 630am on a low tide . I used a cable leader on big Bertha , tried catching what took my catch last weekend . Newport harbor is well known for huge rays and sharks , basically leopards . Nothing took my squid on the cable leader but once I changed my setup a puppy spottie took it. It's just not fun catching something small on heavy tackle . One big lesson I learn was to never cut squid with scissors in you palm , the funny part was that my bro n law and I had just finished talking about having a first aid kit in our tackle box , overall it was a nice day 🎣✌️🦃

Your welcome , so true it wasn't a skunk day 🦨, I'm looking forward to Thanksgiving morning , going there early but not to early, about 30ft behind us we're we fish are multimillion dollar houses with their docks behind them , we've been blending in well with the locals having them come and share some good laughs, I'm sure they don't want to hear "GET THE GAFF!!" LMBO 😆😂

Say brother, love your stories…which pier are you fishing in Newport Beach? My wife and I are retired, and we’re always looking for local places to fish and spend some “us” time together relaxing…catching fish is always a plus, but not a necessity….thank you brother….

Good morning, it's called Rhine Wharf Pier but it's just actually a dock. Being that it's hard for me to get around due to a back injury parking is steps away . As for restrooms I go into the blue water grill and buy a tea then ask to use the restroom, not that I'm obligated to buy but I just feel comfortable being a paying customer to use their facility. It's like 50ft away from where we fish . You can't fish on the dock but you can fish on the sidewalk which is wide enough to bring your chairs . Sometimes you get those kind of boat captains come close to our lines out of disrespect or they are not certified captains 😆. Just to sit and watch the scenery is so enjoyable.
