From our friends at the CDFW...

"The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) announced today that emergency regulations enacted by the California Fish and Game Commission (Commission) last month to reduce the harvest of white sturgeon in state waters are now in effect, having been approved by the Office of Administrative Law.

The new regulations reduce the number of fish that can be kept to one per year, reduce the slot limit to 42-48 inches, cap the number of white sturgeon that can be possessed on a vessel at two per day and add seasonal closures to sturgeon fishing in key spawning areas."

I want to see the fish around for future generations. In Oregon the rules have evolved quite a bit and similar. Seems strange though if 3 people have all their tags etc but only two fish can be on a vessel. So one fisherman or fisher lady can’t take their one fish the same fishing trip. Guess better take more boats when the bite is ON.

I think it's a good idea. The fishing for Sturgeon used to be very good. I remember in the 70's fishing from shore at the Clarksburg boat ramp catching a handful every night in 150lb range. My best day was near the Benicia Bridge in 70 mile an hour wind gusts. I was by myself and caught 44 with only 6 being keepers but it was so much fun. The only other boat was the Skipalou out of Martinez. I remember fishing SF Bay near Tiburon when they were boiling after Herring. Like everything the fishing has changed. I'm now very content fishing the lakes and river of Northern California.
