Weather forecast initially looked as if crabbing would be a no go, but late the day before predictions eased up and we decided to go. Ben (FishermanLeesonoma), Karel and I met up at about 6:15 am at the marina, had the boat and bait all set and were headed out at 7:00 am. Bay was flat and had some river debris here and there. Once past the gate the swells were very close together and choppy, had to slow down so as to not pound the hull. Once past the point and bar, the swells were spread apart and coming from the southwest and the wind waves were present with a bit of white cap. First string was all set at 8:25, took 20 minutes to set, a bit on the slow side. After the normal 45 minute soak we started pulling, between the current/tide, wind and swells it was a bit of a trick but we managed. First pot was 3 keepers, second 4 keepers and the third was 1, the rest were blanks and we reset. Once we dialed them in we got our limits quick, one pot had 9 keepers in it, a new PB. Ended with 40 keepers and we culled it down to 30. Another great day on the water!
Oh, needed to mention while cleaning the crab Ben tried shake hands with one of the crab, wasn’t a good idea, the crab grabbed his hands multiple times and drew blood. Officially indoctrinated!! I was chuckling, Ben wasn’t, sorry Ben!
Karel (Carl, my boat co-owner) with a pot with a few keepers.

LOL! It was the first time in my life... but I was trying to keep up with 40Grit cleaning those crabs... LOL And I will definitely not do that again.
Definitely was best crabbing day ever!!!! 40Grit and Karel have it dialed it!
Thanks Ben! Definitely a good day crabbing, that crab really didn’t like you, I’ve never seen someone bit that many times at once. You shook it off well!

Glad to hear that you learned your lesson Ben. I learned mine when I was a kid, Bluecrabbing for the first time. Of course then there was using Green and Fiddler crabs for bait, and also Sandworms.....LOL

Ouch. Still sounds like a great day. Seems like they have a way of sneaking a pinch here and there. As you enjoy them with some butter or right out of the shell you know that Crabby crab 🦀 won’t be doing that again.
