What the catfish are eating at Bartlett

Last night I was fishing for cats at Lake Bartlett (Flats) and caught a few. One of them (22 inch, 3.75 pounds) had a very extended belly which caused me to investigate what was "inside." When I opened him up, I found two full-size hotdogs and enough corn to feed a small family. I had been fishing with stink baits but probably should have used hot dogs ... although from this one's insides, he seemed to have been good at stealing them ...

You were wise to examine the stomach of catfish. However, I believe they will eat almost anything. For bigger cats, you can use perch or sunfish as big as your hand, and chicken guts or other parts work. ONE thing you might remember is the big ones usually feed at night, or early in the AM, like 2 or 3 A.M. Just Sayin...RJS

I usually go to the "Flats" but have also tried my luck at Rattlesnake Cove

Sincerely doubt you could catch trout or walleye at Bartlett from the shore. But there are plenty of catfish!

Using worms? My wife and I had a blast at willow springs lake, caught some nice trout, just a lil far to run to every weekend
