Lake Pend Oreille Fishing Report
There are a lot of big Kamloops being caught...and the numbers are up. Due to the tournaments on the lake, there have been a fleet of boats out there vying for patch fish, but don’t let that keep you off the water. The fish don’t seem to mind.
The surface temp on the lake at this time is a productive 50ish degrees. Those big fish are on the surface hunting for kokanee. Throw out the planer boards and your favorite gear or flies. I hear that the big “stick” Rapalas are not doing too bad and fall colors for your bucktails. Halloween colors or naturals seem productive as well as pink and brown or a natural colors. Personally, I like black and red or white and red. I caught my PB on a Charger made by Frisky Jenny.
I always like a good chop and a lot of action on the planer boards. Getting those boards heaving, diving and pulling causes a lot of energy that is transferred to your bait. Remember to always stagger your gear off the board with your longest line closest to the board.
Also, a 31.25 Laker was caught a week or so ago. Due to Fish and Games aggressive netting of the macks, you seldom see many over 10 pounds, but obviously bigger fish are out there.
All in all, the fishing has been great and continues to be productive. Keep in mind the LPOIC Thanksgiving Derby is coming up November 18-22nd & November 24-26.
