I have a question about several heavily WEEDED lakes in my PA area as to how to fish them from land (boats aren't allowed).I KNOW THERE ARE HUGE FISH in there but there is a massive amount of Lilly pads as well as other thick plant life as to you can't even see the water. My question is how to fish it with out getting snagged as well as getting the line in the water past the heavy plants?Anyone have any ideas? As stated if I can some how clear out a spot from all this plant life as to cast & the fish can see the bait I know I can land some big fish.

I presume that you are fishing for LM Bass. My initial opinion is that I would use topwater lures, such as frogs. Weedless wacky rigged soft plastic worms for intermediate depths and texas rigged worms with heavy weight tungsten to punch through the weeds to get to the bottom. if the vegetation is really thick I would use 30lb (or stronger) braid that you will need to pull the fish out of the weeds.

Good luck.

I’d be throwing a frog all day! And as mentioned before, a heavy duty punch rig. 1oz tungsten weight or heavier, 4-5ot ewg hook ( heavy gauge ), with a creature bait Tex rigged. I’d also peg the weight. 20 lb floro or 50-60lb braid. The braid will cut through the vegetation better when you hook up. 🎣

Good job! I’d go w the frog from sun up til around 9am. Then go w the punch rig. Frog again before sundown. 🎣

Also, throw the frog on 12-17lb monofilament. It’ll keep your frog running true. Mono floats, so does braid to an extent. Fluoro sinks. Better for hard baits.🎣

Plastic lizard, no weight, run across top with some pauses! A fluke weightless across top and a paddle tail soft plastic weightless or with an 1/16oz to 1/8pz weight with a bobber stopper (pegged) run it across the top so the paddle tail disturbed the water

Punch rigs work on floating vegetation. If the cabbage is anything like Ohio, all that junk has stems, which doubles the trouble when you punch it. You're pretty much stuck with frogs and the Johnson silver minnow. But, do you have any proof that the bass are in there? Choked with vegetation and no open water means shallow. Shallow means winter kill. Before you spend too much time screwing with a crap lake, make sure the largemouth are in there. Talk to people. Make them show you pictures. Are there tons of frogs? Too many frogs means nothing is eating them. Good luck.
