Well, said I’d report back regardless of the outcome and have to tell you LIMITS for 3 in less than 3 hours! The honey hole paid off, averaged 2 keepers per loop pot, so with 7 loop pots it took 2 1/2 sets at an average of a 45 minute soak. The fist few of the string didn’t produce so we moved them to the end of the set and reset. As we progressed through the set numbers of keepers increased, so the strategy to move to the end of the string paid off. The most productive pot produced 5 keepers, we only had 1 “just barely” legal keeper and all others were over 6” and many in the 6 1/2’ to 7” range. We headed out from the dock at about 7:15 and had the first string set done at 8:34, by 11:30 we had our limits, pots stacked and headed back to the dock.
The seas were as good as it gets, 3’ or less swell and very little wind waves or current. The only negative was blinding fog for the whole trip out, while we were crabbing and the trip in. Thank God for radar!! A lot of boats out, a few close calls (they must not have had radar or weren’t paying attention). We were the first back at the dock and cleaning our crab.
Thanks to all wishing me luck, because it worked!!
On our way back in, gives you an idea of the fog.
Can you see the other boat in the fog?
“Fog Bow” in the bay
Full cooler
A couple of the “big dogs”
Karel (pronounced Carl) and “the Doc”
We had several of this size
What 30 cleaned crab look like

Nice Catching Denny! That's an awesome haul buddy, and efficient enough to get out of the soup and safety back to the barn early. Great day, and thanks for the pictures.
Nice haul! Sounds like you had a good day.
Nice way to get the season started.

Thanks Fred! I really like getting back in time to get the boat put up, catch cleaned, back to the house and crab cooked, all in time for dinner!! Although the best part was getting home and finding my brand new (11/3) grand daughter at the house! Wasn’t expecting that, what a great day indeed!
Pic was from when she’s still at the hospital.
