Good morning where is a good spot to go fishing today within the next 2 hours on a small boat
Reded
Loc: Now Virginia, after NJ then NY
Wow, there’s many, but need bit more info for anyone to give you a good answer,
Salt? Inshore or offshore?
Fresh? How small a boat? Need ramp? Motor?
Fish to be found everywhere!
Okay yes I have a 20ft boat so I’m not looking to go too far out. Saltwater fishing. Yes I need a boat ramp and I’m pushing a 120 motor

Short answer for anywhere. Look for a group of boats and you will likely be in a good location. Any time I fish a new salt area without a lot of research, I go to my chartplotter or a paper chart, paper chart prefered, and find a rocky bottom. If you find rocks, there is usually some type of fish there. If no rocks, then look for sharp drop offs ledges or fast depth changes.. Fish the top and bottoms of the drops unless the bottom is to deep to be practical. If a hump, fish both sides, though I usually find the fish on the down current side waiting in ambush. My go to gear in unknown water is a lead flutter type jig, Pt. Wilson, drt, Cripple Herring or Hopkins. A piece of bait small enough to not mess up the flutter helps. Shrimp, a strip of squid, or small fish filet work well. My second choice is a round or bullet leadhead jig from 1/2 oz. to two pounds depending on the situation and fish size. Try both plain jig or bucktail jig. Attach an appropriate to hook size curly tail grub (I use white, rootbeer and green in that order as different fish like different colors with white being my most successful) To the curly tail jig I again attach a small fluttering filet, squid strip or, where prevalent, a shrimp hanging off the hook. The best option is hit a local bait shop and ask. They will have the latest on what is happening in the area you are fishing. Let us know how it goes. Photos speak more than words.
