Three week trip review.

The trip was great with very few bumps in the road. We caught lots of fish of multiple varieties. We ate fish four day a week. cooked several ways. (we both love fish). We both agreed after years of discussion that yellow perch are better than bass, walley, crappie, and bluegill. We had outstanding weather. Most important, we got rest and our heads cleared up after a very rough year.
To top it off we hit the fall colors perfect on our way home. Who could ask for more.

Thanks for the reports.
Did you go back home highway 2?
I think one can drive 50 miles through the fall colors.

No, we went from 2 to 90 over Hwy 97. It was a bit of a climb, but worth it.

We will have to try perch some time, but for us nothing can beat walleye baked in the oven.

I have not tried it baked. I am open to any details on your cooking method. Thanks for your input.

I love sharing. That is why I became a guide I guess. This trip however, I could have used the help of others chasing Lake Chelan (mackinaw) lake trout . If it had not likely been our last trip to Chelan, we would have hired a guide. As it stands, there are so many locations closer to home, even this side of the mountain range that we still need to explore. It seemed more prudent to save the money for a guide in a new area that we are likely to return to. That would give us a better bang for our money. We are thinking we might concentrate on the Columbia and the Spokane river next summer. We are also hoping to spend more time on the salt chasing salmon. That being said, life these days are controlled by health. Chuck is in his 80's and I am in my mid 70's. Three week trips may have to be reduced to more two and one week trips. We also found that full hookups are replacing dry camping more and more. The days of pulling over in a flat spot for a few days is in our past. I do believe we could still dry camp if the situation (fishing quality) justified it for a few days. Like I said, I am just a young pup in my 70"s. I am still good to good dry on my own or with my daughter and or grandson's, though I do like splitting cost. Thanks again for the positive comments.

It's basically like oven frying. I coat the fillets as though I'm frying them but instead lay them on a cookie sheet glazed with olive oil, spray the top side with cooking oil spray (Pam) then into the 400 degree oven for about 4-8 minutes each side depending on how large they are. An alternative way is just lay the fillets on the olive oil glazed sheet seasoning them with your favorite seasonings like lemon pepper and seasoned pepper ext. and into the 400 degree oven for 10 minutes or so and then enjoy!

As far as your travels go, we're just in our 60's and my health has cut back our "dry camping" too. My wife worries to much about me. But maybe next year will be better for all of us with great fishing and good roads to travel . Happy Thursday morning to you all!!!!

Thanks for the breakdown on frying. It will have to be on some other fish as I will not be seeing walleye for some time now as they are 5 hours away over a snow covered mountain range. Don't let the ghost's get you and enjoy the upcoming holiday season. It is a very special time with the grandkids.
