This spring I plan to take a course called " Indiana River Watch ". Volunteers test our waterways for fishing and other aquatic recreation. We are issued water test kits and taught how to use them and make reports to the Indiana DNR.
Many of our Lafayette city parks have excellent fishing in its ponds. But don't allow aquatic vessels.
I've been granted permission by the Lafayette Indiana Parks And Recreation Department to conduct research only using non-motorized boats.
I would also like to include underwater ffilm footage of underwater structures and fish populations and species.
To do so I will need a underwater filming camera that can film in murky waterways. Still pictures are also acceptable.
Have any stagers had experience with underwater cameras and/or filming , and is so what equipment do you recommend?
I have a limited budget and can't spend thousands of dollars.

I'll have to check if it would be allowed to actually enter the water, without accidentally falling in.
I would highly doubt that they will allow it. Even with a canoe of kayak it must be displayed research vessel

If you’re filming under water it’s going to have to go in the water. The fishing type go on a fishing line. Or downrigger

Yes underwater that attaches to the hull. I may also invest in the type that attaches to a rod. I saw some while conducting research. They look pretty cool.

I have a Go Pro Camera with a waterproof case and a custom pole which attaches. You can also be creative to figure out ways to get it to where you want. Personally I feel its more for fun than actually using it to find fish.

They sell an underwater housing for phones now for under $100 on Amazon (also much more expensive ones). Your phone (most relatively newer ones) do low light conditions. You’d have to start the video up top and figure out a harness to drop it down, might be a bit of trial and error but possibly get the job done. Drop it to depth and spin the cord…..battery will run out fairly quick but a portable backup charger could keep you charged up. I used one several years ago when I dove the Blue Hole in Belize, 145’ max depth. No problems and it records sound as well. The other option might be an old go pro camera.

Thank you. I looked it up. Looks like a very good option at a good price.
I'll make a trip to the Bass Pro shop in Northern Indiana to check it out. While I'm there I can visit my brother. He lives nearby.

Check with the Wisconsin and Minnesota DNRs, they use them to check holes under ice fish houses to catch poachers dumping fish remains after fileting and cooking them to keep more then their limit. Think of that next time you see a ice fish house going down the hwy.

I saw utube video, while checking out battery powered filit knives. The angular was fileting fish on his boat and throwing the waste in the water.
I always thought that was wrong and now from your post probably illegal. I'll Google that and see. Even if it isn't I won't throw my fish waste in the water.

Just looked up Indiana fishing 🎣 laws. Throwing fish guts in state waterways is considered wanton waste and is therefore illegal.
Thanks again for your post 📯

Check the you-tube channels that have underwater footage and they always have a list of their gear.
