Never fished it, but I have seen good fish from the bridge. Snappers mostly, one or two redfish, a couple of snook. Looks like a great spot for a kayak.

I've fished the Matlacha Pass Bridge often over the past 6 years (over 100 times). One of my favorites! I've seen nearly everything that's in the Gulf caught there, from 8 ft. Bull Sharks to 16-18 inch Mangrove Snappers, Black and Red Drum, Big Snook and Grouper and even Cobia! Post Ian, the parking and nighttime lighting situ is not great. Pay attention to the tide/activity charts and you'll have a great FL fishing experience

I use to fish that bridge every nigh t. There was an older guy that showed me how to 'swish' or 'stir' that was how the Indians use to do it. Kind of a dying art but still produces BIG snook, On that bridge I bought a 10-12 foot Calcuta pole and added 6 feet of aluminum tubing to it so I could get it to the wáter. Next I wrapped it with Nylon rope to the tip and left another foot off the end. I added a 'snap' and a 10 inch red and white balsa stick bobber with a treble hook (real heavy gage treble hook). Then you are ready to 'stir' lower the bobber down to the water near a pilon and move it around in a figure 8 pattern. Snook have a temper and after they watch the rig go round and round they knock the snot out of it. But do NOT try to flip the snook up on to the bridge, you will loose the every time. You must bring the fish straight up hand over hand. It takes a while to get the hang of it, but you will catch a lot of keepers. Good luck!!
