Good Evening, I'm new to fishing. I have two sons and have gained there interest in fishing as a great way to spend some time together outside.

We are very close to Millennium Park in Grand Rapids and that has been our preferred location for fishing. Gills are often the target but they are very tiny at the park this year so our interest is lost. We are interested in bass but in 6 months of fishing once a week we have caught one largemouth bass. We have tried six different shore locations at the various lakes and ponds. We have tried the Grand River and other waters in the Jenison/Grandville with different lures.

We consistently get skunked on bass in particular. Are there no good areas to fish for bass from the shore or do we have bar luck or poor technique? Any advice for better outings is appreciated.

Just remember it is not the largest fish which gets your bait, but the fastest!
How are you fishing for them now? It may be as simple as fishing deeper, or closer to cover or structure? Try to think like a fish…how would you try to survive if everything may be trying to eat you?

When fishing from the bank try casting along the bank 2 or 3 feet out the bait stays in the strike zone longer. Welcome to the stage. Bobby from NC

Thanks for the reply. Never heard of your town. I see it's not far from I-26. What waters do you fish there?. I'm wanting to try the Green River at Saluda.
