I've tried using artificial lures (swim baits, jigs, poppers, jitterbugs, etc.) and they almost never work, any idea why? I've used worms as jigs and they work great, but with fake worms they don't work very well, I want to know why that is. I seemingly never catch anything on artificial bait

A lot of could be the speed or tempo that you work the bait. Each bait works at different speeds than the others. You may be working one too fast while you may be working the other too slow. How much time have you spent reading and learning how to use each bait. Have you varied the speed that you work each bait. The most important question is what speed do the fish (bass) want the bait to be worked. There is a tremendous amount of information that has to be read, watched, and learned about each bait. How long have you been actually learning or number of years fishing for (bass)? How quick do you get frustrated? I have been artificial bait fishing for bass for over 45 years and I read, watch and learn about fishing(bass) everyday. 3 different magazines, at least 10 to 15 web/utube shows and this digest also.
Usually one fishes for what one is.
