I went salmon fishing on the Rogue River outside of Grants Pass the other day. I found a guide that was available with only a couple days notice. I drove 3 1/2 hours, got a hotel room, and meet the guide at 6:30 am the following morning. I was told fishing has been pretty good with several fish caught each day for the last few days. Knowing that catching fish is not a for sure thing..but I did have high hopes. Well, I got skunked! I was very bummed as I was looking forward to at least catching one King Salmon. Another boat that was fishing near us was landing fish which made me hopeful .... thinking I have a shot here! Anyway, I still had a good time and as we all know....the worst day fishing is better than the best day at work. The trip put me back $ 500 for coming home empty handed which is hard to swallow.
Makes one wonder if work isn't that bad. Ouch. Thanks for reporting anyway.

Sounds goofy. If a boat near you was hooking them then you should have too. Were the lures etc the same as the boat hooking them? Makes one wonder if the last minute plans was a backup guy.
I don't know what the other boat was using but we were fishing with a plug wrapped with tuna. I think that's what is mainly used when your drifting this river
What is name of guy that took you? Be good to know
that's fishing.
you can always get your own boat $30k+, a pickup to pull it, $50k+, fuel for the truck and boat $150.00 a day+, buy a pole and reel at least $200.00, bait for the day $20.00, those quick fish lures $10.00 each.
and have your buddies in the boat get skunked.. painful.
that's fishing...

Guide's name was Riley.
Nice guy, helpful, and seemed knowledgeable.
Your post was Oct.2. When you mentioned "... fishing the other day." You could have been a little early for the bulk of fishing getting up to the Grants Pass area.
Grants pass area salmon fishing closed Sept 30th, the day I went
