Bluetooth reel from KastKing. It gives all sorts of your stats on your phone or through the upcoming sun glasses or ear buds. Look at the video.

Sometimes I just want to keep it simple. I do have to admit that this is a lot of technology packed into a small space.

I’ve purchased two Kastking reels in the past year. My opinion is that they are JUNK.

I am not in the market for one of their reels, but that was good feedback for others. I would be interested in knowing what their deficiencies were and I'm sure others would as well.

I agree Frank, too much technology for me.

Wellll, IMO, those reels aren't for FISHERMEN. They are for gadget people.
People that are into the latest gadgets/technology.
Real/REEL fishermen are into catchin fish and they can LOOK and tell you how far they cast.
If you're bumpin bottom, you're fishin very shallow or reelin too slow.
I don't need a reel to tell me how fast I need to reel. I have sense enough to go faster or slower depending on the depth, current and the action of the lure. HOWEVER, that's JMHO.

I'm still having difficulty posting a pic on the stage. That fish would bite me in the butt before I found where it is according to the reel.

I don’t think I’m interested in being chained to technology when I’m fishing, but that’s just me.
I fish for many reasons and “to get away from it all “ is one of them. I use my phone to watch the weather and take photos.

Interesting Thread.

I suggest taking a younger person with you who understands the technology. Let them teach you how to use the reel.

There is one thing I do know.
The only ones who like change are the babies.

I would grab a Generation V kid and say, "Show me how this thing works." Then the two of you could catch some serious fish. Your fishing knowledge combined with his/her/its technical skills.

I have been Ocean Fishing in DEEP water reeling BIG fish and several of them. Electric Reels are awesome. 500+’ without a fish on it gets old even. The electric reels are best thing ever when reeling in huge halibut and Lingcod 500’ you go home and arms don’t feel like they are going to fall off. As far as Bluetooth and seeing how far of a cast etc to me is waste of time but a reel that helps set the hook and gets line up to bait quickly is an advantage.

I totally agree on the technology point. My phone is also a camera and phone.

I agree, brought a baitrunner a few years ago and it was worthless

I have two , both level wind models. On both the spool became very sloppy. When either casting or reeling line would get caught between the spool and the reel body numerous times. Drag settng is very inconsistent. Yeah they look high end but don’t see them preforming well long term, especially in a saltwater environment. Just my opinion.

How about an Electric Reel… for deep water and heavy fish? Ever tried one? Some charters only type they have is electric. Not Bluetooth or green teeth or any other hygiene stuff just to pull monsters off the bottom to clean and EAT. You ever use one?

Never tried an electric reel . I could see their functionality in that usage though
