Try starting out where the Stanislaus river enters the lake and follow the shoreline at least twenty five yards off the shoreline( lots of snags on the granite rocks if u troll to close to shore) on either side of the lake. Use a flasher setup and a half nightcrawer with a half ounce trolling weight. Keep your trolling speed down to about 1 and a half to 2 mph. This technique has worked many times over the years for me. Good luck and I hope u nail them! Sunny side of the lake in the morning, shaded side in the afternoon! Another tip.. if the wind picks up in the afternoon, which it normally does, use it to your advantage and try drifting pink and white mouse tails with a small split shot through the main lake with the wind at your back. Also the general store at the lake is a great source for current information in regards to fishing conditions.

Nice fishing lake. We used mostly green garlic power bait on a Carolina rig. The lake inlet is the best. It’s a little bit of a hike to it, so we rented boats. If you can tie off on the side because the current is a little strong to stay in the zone. I would definitely also try mouse tails and some spinners.

Hey Bob,
I spent my youthful vacations on Pinecrest- so beautiful!
Trolling should be good in the deeps, and near the dam.
You may want to try the inlet at the far side of the lake- not for trolling, but for drifting salmon eggs in the current. Go there, and tell no one about it!
Looks like I just broke my code!
Have fun!
Peter
