Went out yesterday with 40Grit's partner and fished off Angel Island.

It was slow in the morning so when I caught a barely legal one (had to hold the mouth just right) I kept it.

About the time we were thinking about going out the Gate to The Bar, the wind picked up and we decided not to.

It turns out that it was a good call because the wind died back down (rarely happens) about an hour later and the halibut started biting.

Ended up with 4 in the boat -- 22", 27-1/2", 28-1/4" & 32".

I did lose a monster (based on how long and loud my reel was screaming on its initial run) half way to the boat. I think I messed up keeping the pressure on when I was clearing the rail.

We also picked up some recycling while we were out.

Nice catching Papa D. Beautiful fish, and nice job with the recyclables. People are slobs. Thanks for the pictures and report.

The bin was a bear to get over the rail.

It was floating right at the surface and could have done some damage if hit at cruising speed.

I've pulled out much larger deadheads but used my 4wd Suburban (on the levee-roads). I've also tagged/marked a few and done a sรฉcuritรฉ call so the USCG could deal with it.

(For those that are unfamiliar with the term, a deadhead is a waterlogged tree/telephone-pole/etc that floats vertically with very little showing above the surface (sometimes they bob--staying submerged for extended periods of time). They can do some major damage.

Yeah it is good you defined Dead Head in the area youโ€™re in. Many of us know they are trees etc but in that area Dead Head ๐Ÿ’€ could be a Grateful Dead Fan.

Good catching PaPa D. They look nice and good youโ€™re making the water a safer place for boaters. Thank you for sharing.

That's what we call the water skiers that hit them--not just the ones wearing skis but they'll also flip the flat bottom ski boats.

55 years ago I hit top of a small one while being towed on Rollins Reservoir (Greenhorn branch). Obviously, I lived but it really messed up my back and I had to be hauled back into the boat.

K hit one hard in the bay and it destroyed the lower unit.

Most of them are gone now that the river level has dropped back down. Earlier in the year I was spotting at least one on almost every trip to the river/Delta.

Really great catch, thank you for retrieving that barrel. We know it was a chore. On our maintenance route at work we found an 80 gal drum down a storm manhole. I don't know how it got in there. We cut it up to get it out. It was bigger than the top ring.

Maybe whoever put it there used the same trick that's used to get an egg inside of a glass milk bottle.
