I broke the line clip on my reel.

Any way to replace this? Or am I stuck using a piece of tape? I'm not very experienced and Google has not been helpful. My grandpa gave me this reel almost 20 years ago.

This company makes stainless steel upgrades for them. On a side note, for years I thought it was for just clipping your line when not rigged but they are actually used for casting the same distance over and over.

Crazy right, I first learned it watching a video of a guy upgrading his. The whole time I'm thing, "why would you want to do that?". I finally realized it was so it did no damage to the line like the cheap plastic ones when a fish hits, it would pop out of the clip so the fish could run.

Lol same! I was looking for a way to replace mine and found a video of an upgraded style that comes loose if you hook something that pulls too hard to you can repetitively cast but your line won't break while you try to unclip it

Same. Interesting. Can’t imagine a scenario I put this to use, but still interesting.

No problem, I build custom rods and I was doing one for a guy and he wanted his reel upgraded and customized. I ran into the same when trying to find something to replace the plastic "sharkstooth" one that was on his reel, I searched for an hour and finally ran across a you tube video that a guy was using these to upgrade his reel.

If you’re just holding the line on, I like the fat rubber bands you get with broccoli.

Also, looks like you could use some more line on there.

Ah sweet that's a good idea.

Ya I thought it looked kinda low myself but it's almost the full 200yd real I just bought for the weekend. I left some line for in my box in case I wanted to make a lead or something.

I use elastic hair-tie bands to secure line to the spool. They are like 50 for $5 and I keep one or two on the butt of all my spinning rods.

Yeah, and the Dollar Tree sells all manner of sizes and materials, from slick to ultra-fuzzy, even some similar to "coiled phone cord". Just used two joined together for a "leash" on my pliers.
The ones with little balls on each end are perfect as rod wraps when you break down a rod for transport... works just like the bigger ones made for tarps etc.

I've used cheap mono as backing. This gets my line out twords the lip. Like when it's full. Suposedly casts better and cuts down on wind knots. I also use a broccoli rubber band. But when I head out. I'm fully rigged. My hook or lure is in the clip on the pole. I only use that clip if I'm broke off. Great topic thanks.

That's a great idea. I've always fought with that clip. I've used rubber bands. Especially when I run a multi piece pole.
