Brownlee Reservoir Question
Idaho Fishing

Got a question about shore fishing on the Idaho side of Brownlee Reservoir - in the northern end of Woodhead Park. Couple weeks ago I fished there with a buddy and we caught several bass and catfish - a total of maybe 20 in all. We were using nightcrawlers with a small marshmallow on the end of the line to float the bait off the bottom. Seemed to work OK.

I'm going back there this coming Sunday (9/24/2023) and was wondering about using lures. I had tried it on that previous trip but never got a single strike. It appears that there are few, if any, weeds win this location - from what I can see from shore, just lots of rocks/gravel. Unfortunately, I have no idea how deep the water is in the area where I'd be able to launch my lures.

Anyone been there before and had success with artificial lures? What kind - Rapala's? Daredevils...? How did you fish them?

Buddy always left spinning reel open. Let fish grab cut bait and run awhile before he shut bail to set hook. Read up on Brownlee it is Mercury contaminated and should only eat a little fish there especially if you’re pregnant.

OK - thanks! I did some research and it appears that the fish there are just slightly above state recommended levels. Reinforces whey I catch and release. :-)
