I am new to the hickory NC area. Originally from PA. Interested in catching some catfish in Hickory lake/ Catawba river. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Catfish are in there.i fish above you in lake Rodehiss,which is also catawba chain.lots of folks use hotdogs,worms,etc.some off the boat ramps have piers,if you are not in a boat

Welcome aboard Woody. I cat fish in Fletcher NC some and do real good everytime so I know there are some catfish in NC. Good luck and post some picks of your catches.

Thanks for replying. Just bank fishing for now. Does anyone use things like chicken livers or minnows? Are you allowed to use minnow traps to catch bait?

Yes folks do use chicken livers and sure minnows also.Dont know about minnow traps.check NC WILDLIFE .online or pick up a hunt fish book from a licence supplier such as Wal mart
