They seem to be deep this time of year. We usually fish for the smallmouth this time of year. I will check for the local source and post it to you so you can ask someone who knows better than I. It is a great place to be in the fall. πŸŽ£πŸŽ£πŸ‘πŸ‘ Wishing you luck and a happy trip. I will get back to you.

Thank you! We really aren’t all about stripers any fish will do. We eat most of them.

Hey Bev. Years ago when a buddy and I would fish Powell we liked going in Dec and Jan. During the day troll along the bluff walls with Rapala Shad Raps or Storm Thunder or Deep Thunder Sticks. At night we would tie up in an empty houseboat slip at Bulldrog Marina. Put out a crappie light and chum with cut frozen anchovies. You'll find that soon the baitfish will find you then within an hour the Stripers will find your cut bait. Watch your depth finder to get close to depth they are holding. We usually found at that time of year we would fish about 40' down in 60-100' of water. At that depth the bladder pops out of the mouth so not good for catch and release. We were filleting and freezing so not a problem. Have even caught 'em in a snowstorm. The houseboat slip is important in the snow. Check Marinas for methods for the weather and water temps when you are down there. Tight lines.

Randy

wayneswords.net. Jim Sargent goes to this site a lot and says it is really good. Since every time I have gone with him I have caught fish, I am inclined to take his word as gospel where Powell is concerned.😁🎣🎣 Welcome to the Stage Bev, don’t be a stranger. We love pictures too.

Wayne Gustaveson, fisheries biologist at Powell for many years was known as the "Fish Whisperer". I believe he is now retired but "Wayne'sword.net" is the Lake Powell bible.

We are on the lake now and have not seen a stipper boil. Trolling we picked up 7 small mouths. But they taste better. Weather has by great. Leaving tomorrow for Antalope πŸ™
