I recently got gifted a 7ft graphite rod and a nicer reel, I live in Washington and it is currently Salmon season. I want to salmon fish and want to know if I could go for salmon with it?

Thanks!

7ft med to heavy action is fine and if your reel can hold a few hundred yards of 60-80# braid great.

I fished for salmon with graphite and fiber glass did see much of a difference other than the sensitivity of the blank.

What kind of rod is it (spinning, ext) and what brand and model of reel is it?

Reel is a spinning KastKing that ran about $40 so nothing crazy but a lot better than my previous ones and the rod is a shakespeare im8 graphite rod

What's the action on the rod?

You can use spinning reels for salmon. Specially if they are large reels and your fishing on the river bank. From a boat I'm honestly not sure I've always used level wind.

Doesn’t really say, the only rating on it that I see is that it’s an im8 rod

Heres a pic of the label.

Look on the rod itself. It will state line weight. Match your line with what the rod shows. If you choose braid you can use heavyer line. I have used spinning reels with 12# line and Penn 209 reels with 20# line. If you choose braid line you can go a bit heavyer. Just go out and have fun.

I have a 10 foot graphite rod medium light action. I use 10# Power Pro braid on my Mitchell 308 Pro reel and 8# test leader of Vanish fluorocarbon-no problem landing 2-30 pounders. But, you have to play the fish out!
