Hello I grew up in Yakima area and moved away , before Ipvedvall little ponds and lakes by freeways were full of bass perch and crappy. Now you don't seem to be able to even fish them anymore ,anyone have any tips on new places .

Welcome to the Stage. I grew up west of the mountains so I’m not familiar with the Yakima area. But the times I’ve driven over White Pass and the up the Yakima to Ellensburg, my casting arm would twitch. Those rivers looked mighty tempting.

The rivers are good Yakima has always had great trout fishing ! But I like the more obscure gravel pit ponds and places that are maybe private maybe not , little ponds and such that are out of way , I guess I talked to a warehouse guy and he said he would not even try the first 2 or 3 ft off banks are littered with the discarded needles from all homeless shooting up . 29 years ago we had none of that

It is fun to try little ponds. You never know what may be in them. I fished a fire pond in Georgia one time. Pulled out a huge LM bass. The lure must have landed on it because it was on before the lure stopped splashing.

I enjoy the I 82 ponds. Have had some good fishing in pond 4 and 6. You could also try Myron lake. Selective gear only.

Where is I-82? When I was there we had I-90 to Spokane and I-80N on the Oregon side of the Columbia. I think 80N is now 84. 😊 I pretty much left the area in 1973.

In some places the little ponds next to the freeway are called borrow pits. The excavation and used the fill when constructing the freeway. Usually pretty good fishing with not a lot of pressure.

I 82 is major route between Yakima and tri cities. There are 7 ponds along the freeway. 1 and 2 have parking and then walkin access. 4 has drive in and park access. 5 you walk into from 4. 6 has drive in and park access. 7 is walking. You can see them on the Maps app

I drive by the ponds yesterday and no one was fishing the roofs looked like they were starting to get overgrown with bushes! I agree used to be a great place to fish with the kids but it’s been 15 years or more since I’ve fished them! Good luck the river is still good

Hello, nice to see someone from our part of the state in this forum. My husband and I fish all the time in whatever puddle we can cast in, some are private and that's where the big ones are, unfortunately.
But I can tell you that any of the I-82 ponds are great some overfishing some aren't. You have the river, Myron Lake and there are ponds out in Union Gap right off the highway. If you don't mind traveling a few miles out of Yakima in any direction there are ponds at the end of the Canyon just outside of Ellensburg and the other direction there are ponds scattered all the way to Sunnyside. Check the Wdfw website for stocking times, rules and regulations and where to fish for certain types. Hopes this helps a bit.

There is still access to the I-82 ponds though I haven't fished them as of late. Buena pond or pond #6 has great fishing for trout, bass, crappie, and the state record catfish was pulled out of there. Also you can drive right to it.
