Most people that want to target Salmon in that area fish on the Siletz River. Salmon Fishing has been pretty good out in the Ocean in the area. Not sure the dates etc for season. I’m sure if someone learned when and where and had plenty of time could get into several of the fish that are in the Salmon but the Siletz is a lot more common for fishing there by boat. Chinook Bend is a Campground/ Fishing place to launch and moor on the Siletz.
Thanks but I don't own a boat. Salmon River gets a good fall Chinook run and it's a small enough River for a bank fisherman like me to be successful. Just hoping for some local tips and advice
There is guides in the area. There is places to bank fish on Siletz. I thought you were someone else. Good luck. Let us know how you do.
You have to time it just right. October often works. Up by the hatchery and down below that not far from the Otis restaurant that burned down on highway 6. I think it is. Parking area hidden inside the trees a bit. Just off the roadway.
Thanks ChuckFasst. Do you know if it is a bait drift, throwing spinners or plunking? I do appreciate the information you you did provide.
From what I noticed the one time I was there last year, it was pretty much a bobber and bait show for the Chinook. The coho were being safeguarded and there were also the weirdest tackle regulations in place there.
You really got to check your regs on that.
I've fished it for years. Been about 6 years but not sure if there's been enough rain to bring them up. Could be wrong. Easy river to fish and I used to go during the week. Caught a 38 pound chrome hen in tidewater about 10 years ago. I used to fish a lot just down from hatchery or where they'd release fish.
That's what I've been hearing. No longer allow corkies and some other new regulations.
