Fished lake Merwin last week Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday. It was really slow, they are lowering Yale to work on the dam and increased water flow from 1000 to 5000. I’m a pretty experienced Kokanee fisherman and was really disappointed.
This time of year the fish are stacking up by the dam getting ready for the spawn. You have to go deep at the mouths of the creeks. Good luck next time.
In my experience, the bite really drops off after Labor Day. You might catch a few of next year’s fish. But they’ll be shorts. But I have caught a few hook jaws in September…🐟on

When do they finish spawning and fish able? After the new year?
Appreciate all the tips
You can fish them year round. You might pick up some of the younger fish. What’s called next year’s fish. Things should start getting better in February and fer sure in March and April. They will be shallow because of the cooler water temps. Good luck… 🐟on
That is true. But he will most likely not catch a fish that has spawned because they will die in 2 to 4 days. Both males and females. (Can I call them that)…😂🐟on
Merwin used to have 15 to 18 inch fish. Some even a bit bigger but now you’d be lucky to get a 16” koke.
Yeah, 16” is my biggest. I’ve only fished Merwin for 5 summer seasons, but do well when I do fish it. I’ve been told that it’s gotten over populated and the food source is inadequate. So that produces a smaller fish. That’s why the fish are smaller in Yale and your catch rate is better. That’s what I’ve heard, anyway… 🐟on
