Caught a few channel cats this morning at Blue Marsh Lake, only took a few pics, but the largest was 18”s.

BUT, had one next to the boat that was around 25”s, I turned my head to get the net and the next thing I know there was no pressure on my arm holding the rod. The fish was gone!

When talking with fisherman or reading posts I occasionally hear about the biggest fish of the day got away. I sometimes wondered if they are telling a fish story, but since it happened to me today now I believe every one of those big fish stories.

It only has to happen to you one time, to make a believer out of you DV. Now, how much bigger is always up for debate.
Oh, almost forgot, thanks for the pictures.

Lucky for SAW1 there were two witnesses for a gaint that got away. It was me and Ben that saw the head of a monster striper that was at least twice as big as the 24 incher we had in the live well. He fought it to alongside the boat. We were trying to get the net when the fish shook the hook loose and disappeared. So he had a monster that got away, but had two witnesses to commiserate with.

With two witnesses got to believe that one.

It’s amazing, the fish are hooked, you fight them, the fish acks like it’s played out and then BANG they are gone.

The one that got away this morning was the only one I lost all morning.

Those got to be big fish straightening out trebles-and two hooks on both trebles at that!

Hey...

I know what you mean about going under the boat. The one I lost was under the boat and I had to put half of my 9’ rod in the water until I got it back to the side it originally started on.

No, I have not fished City Island or TMI.

The below are all locations going south on the river that I fished from shore. I have not had my boat, yet, on the Susquehanna.

I have fished, on the east shore, by Shipoke just below City Island, but above the Harrisburg Dam. Caught small mouths and a 28” flathead, there is a nice grass area there with concrete steps on both sides. Can park behind the hotel on the street and walk down to the river a 100 yds on a paved ramp to the fishing spot.

Have fished at Marietta on the east shore, did not catch anything.

Fished at Columbia, did not catch anything.

Fished at Long Level, caught many catfish, but nothing of any size, but did get a 30” carp weighing 18 lbs.

Fished at Peach Bottom, did not catch anything.

Fished at the Conowingo Pond in MD, below the last dam before the Susquehanna enters into the Chesapeake Bay, its called Conowingo Fisherman’s Park, very nice place, fished there many times, and caught many catfish up to 30”s, they were blues, flatheads and channels. Caught a carp there 30”s weighing 12 lbs, stripers with the biggest being 20”s and eels.

Sorry for your loss too, but that’s all we can do is go back to fishing and try again.

Yes, I was heartbroken, I thought the next step was an easy netting.
