We have a lot of panhandlers holding signs that range from homeless need help to disabled vet that needs help. The sign that I read the other day got me to laughing. It read “ need help! Overdosed on viagra. So many and don’t know who really needs the help. So many places they can get help if they asked.

Good morning Frank, I can get a job any day I want to may not be just what I want to do but it beats holding a sign up and begging... there's a law against it here but they still do it🥴
I'v offered to buy a guy a hamburger that was outside of Burger King asking for money and he said he wasn't hungry right now but would need the money for later...

The only guy who ever got any money from me with a sign, was a guy with a great big smile and a friendly wave, at an intersection with a sign that read....."Taking over the World...short on funds". I pulled off to the side and gave him $5. He was so grateful and pleasant, I almost felt like giving him more, but didn't....kinda wish now that I had had more time to spend, might could have helped more than just $$, idk.

Hate it when I see able bodied men that should be working. Begging in front of a help wanted sign. Dont understand it.

I see this all the time in Rockford IL. I stopped giving them money after I seen one of them leave their 'post' at sunset and walk into a parking lot close by and get into a Range Rover and drive off.

This happens more often than we’d like to admit. Some do quite well by “taking” money meant for those that need it.

At least he is providing SOMETHING, rather than just having his hand out.
I almost always throw a dollar or two in their instrument case or whatever, for those who "busk" for money. Promotes live music, and encourages the buskers to keep trying to elevate their lives. A much more acceptable form of "begging", imho.

I do the same thing, it blows me away how many people say they don't want food, just money

I went through a transition from making $50k a month and homeless over a year period of losing that business, couldn't get a job at a fast food or gas store because they don't want a temporary person they train, couldn't get a $100k job doing camera color separation work for print shops that I was highly qualified for because I was dressed too nice, I damn near cried when they told me I looked more like a business owner than an employee.

Show me a hundred homeless people and you are looking at a hundred stories from drugs, alcohol, divorce, job loss of next to impossible replacement jobs, and a lot of sheer raw mental health issues. Trying to interact and help can be seriously dangerous because of the instability.

While I have no solutions, I am deeply concerned about the scale of the problem, and the way rents have gone up in the last couple years has displaced hundreds of thousands of people that were barely surviving and keeping a roof over their heads...those are the real victims here. Lose your house and you are probably going to lose your job too.

But you tried to find a job, not on the side of the roads asking for money.
That's a big difference 👍
