While trolling outside of Urbanna one of my planners caught the bottom. Slowed to neutral to get it BACK!!!
Had one line out with a "GOTTCHA lure" trolling just below the surface. 2 other lines were 1-deep 20', one about 10', #1 and #2 planners.
When I stpped the Gottcha head down to the bottom (about 40') and something hit it. I pulled up a 38 inch Cutlass fish. Did not know what it was as I never saw this speicies before, let it live anothe day. GUESS what!!! In Japan it is considered a great eating fish. 35 USD a pound!!!
Location Across from Urbanna Virginia, on the northern side of the river where the depth goes from 10' to over 40' in about 100yards. Water temp= 78.5 F, speed 0, hit was close to the bottom, outside temps 95 F+, wind 5 knots from the NW. The water temps are starting to drop/ a week ago water was almost 80.5. It was just after the High tide about 30 minutes.
This fish is suppose to be white meat similiar to flounder.
As the water temps continue to heat up in summer this species is also moving north. they have been around about 2-3 years but r increasing.
