Sport fishing (it’s in the name)
Most of my fishing is a hobby!

According to freedictionary.com, a sport is defined as "An activity involving physical exertion and skill that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often undertaken competitively." So I guess by that definition, if you're participating in a tournament or equivalent, it would be, but any other time it would be a pastime or hobby?

Most times I fish to relax and catching fish is a bonus. However when I'm fishing with buddies or my son, there's an underlying feeling of I can't let so and so show me up by outfishing me, lol!

I usually fish with someone and when I do I always make a $1.00 bet on first fish. Sometimes the largest fish. Bingo - sport.
I also - kind of like golf at times - think fishermen are in competition themselves.
Certainly more of a sport than NASCAR!

If nothing else, I compete against myself. Using new techniques/tackle/strategies, etc. It is a hobby, wife says its an obsession, but it is a competitive hobby

Billfish tournaments, Striper Tourneys, tuna tourneys, shark tourneys,tarpon tourneys, Bass tourneys all pay out money and prizes....fishing.
