According to freedictionary.com, a sport is defined as "An activity involving physical exertion and skill that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often undertaken competitively." So I guess by that definition, if you're participating in a tournament or equivalent, it would be, but any other time it would be a pastime or hobby?

Most times I fish to relax and catching fish is a bonus. However when I'm fishing with buddies or my son, there's an underlying feeling of I can't let so and so show me up by outfishing me, lol!
If nothing else, I compete against myself. Using new techniques/tackle/strategies, etc. It is a hobby, wife says its an obsession, but it is a competitive hobby
