Hi, I’m new to this section. I’ve previously enjoyed posts by other members.
I hope to fish some of the rivers in nearby locales - Snohomish, Stillaguamish, Skagit, Nooksack, Hoh, Satsop, Wynoochee, Quinault rivers and tributaries. I rather like fishing small streams for rainbows and cutthroat.
Seems there are a lot of river closures in my area, but I’ll be happy to post info when/if I get out.
Wishing everybody else good luck on your chosen waters!

Good luck with the Quinalt as it is mostly on the Quinalts Reservation. Used to take special permission to do anything there

for all fishing trying to protect the Chinook salmon which they could do better by banning all tribal, and commercial net fishing and maybe stepping up Chinook hatcheries production. but protecting net fishing boats is a higher priority than protecting the runs

Personally, I think the sea lions are a huge factor in salmon predation, and also contribute to orcas starving. I have seen a bull sea lion stationed at the fish ladder at the Ballard Locks. The salmon bunch up knowing he is there. He’ll take a salmon and move away to eat, and while he’s gone the salmon make a beeline for the ladder. The ranger explained that at one time they used noise makers (sounded like gunshots) to try to scare them away. It worked after a fashion but they had to stop. The public protested that they were scaring the seals. Perception is everything.

I wonder if there is a direct cause and effect between declining fish populations and the protection of marine mammals in the 1970’s.
