How long to keep it until even the cats won't touch it? In other words when to discard it? I've dried chick livers in with chick fat in a baggie for 10 days at room temperature. My gal pal will boot me out if I open it again.
If your gal pal will kick you out it's time to get it out of the house my friend.
So double-ziploc bag it & throw it in the freezer. It'll keep the first beer cold on the way to the water, next trip.
I put gizzards in with the livers. When they are "ripe" I freeze them. The gizzards stay on the hook a lot better. Gotta freeze them BEFORE wife chucks 'em out.
Also, take it out frozen tucked into a fine mess bag (panty hose foot) and use it to attract fish. Use LESS stinky bait to fish with.
