Promised a neighbor ladies kid I would take him perch jerkin. Anyone in here have an idea where I can buy some live minners in the Sugar Land, Stafford, Missouri City area? My Google Foo has been a little on the weak side lately and I’m too darn old to be chasing grasshoppers!
TIA,
OG

Hey, mi amigo, Gringo. If you've committed to a perch jerking session, why not get some worms and jerk away. the last time I was in Walmart they had a fridge full of them in the tackle area. But, be sure to open 'em and check 'em. A friend of mine took his grand daughter perchin', bought his worms at Walmart and, when he got to the lake, they were like little black strings around the bottom edge of the styrofoam cup. Dead as as a rock. He said they were lucky, they found some grasshoppers and bugs around the camp site. He said she enjoyed catching the bugs more than fishing. Ain't that just like a women. Reminds me of a story: I took my wife out to the lake one day. I thought we could us a little bonding time. I looked back and she was all spralled out on the back deck. "What are you doing?" "I'm going to get some Sun." "OK". Who am I to argue? As the day went on, I chunked ever lure I had and not a bite. So, I dug threw the old tackle box and found some purple worms. I was rigging up to pitch into a few brush piles. She asked, "What are you doing now?" I answered back, "I think I'll do a little doddle-socking." she jumped up, stomped the back deck a couple of times and screamed, "NOT IN THIS DANG BOAT YOU AIN'T!"

If you go out at night with a flashlight you can pick grasshoppers off the grass stems with no chasing needed. Just sayin’

Excellent idea & thanks LM! I’ve noted those displays / refrigerators at one of the sporting goods stores I patronize but never really gave them a second thought.

Get the kid a bug net and let him catch his own grasshoppers OR buy some red wiggles other options include stop at a pet store for wax worms, meal worms or crickets.
