Just went to my local Walmart, and they had a ton of reels on sale. They told me they're gonna stop selling individual reels because they get stolen a lot.

As far as my experience with Walmart and fishing gear goes, anything that don't catch gets put on clearance

I think it's due to changes in market and online shopping. For the longest time, places like Meijer and Walmart had huge fishing tackle selections which included many rods and reels above the $100 price point. Over the last 20 years, they've slowly whittled it down to where there may be half of an aisle with gear and a few rod and reel combos or blister pack reels. Back in the day my local Meijer had 6 aisles worth of fishing gear, now it's a much smaller section at the back of the store. Same with the two Walmart stores near me.

the bad thing is that people are stealing the reels off combos, leaving just the rods that have to be written off. if they are quitting selling reels due to theft, they will have to do the same with combos, too.

Some of us are not shopping WalMart any more as they are going anti-Second Amendment like Dick’s did. No more guns & ammo, no carry in the store. So no defense when crazies or terrorists start their attacks.

they are not going to quit selling reels. a lot of people who work at walmart have no idea about what they are talking about.

WalMart is making dramatic changes to the way things are arranged and displayed in their stores. They doing a lot of clearance deals so they have fewer items to move around.

Seeing as my local Walmart only sells really low end fishing rods and reels So there is nothing much here anyway. Yes they carry Ugly Sticks which are fine but in my Walmart that is the high end rod. All the reels they carry are plastic and the most expensive is a 49.00 Abu Garcia. Most of the reels are in the 20 to 40 dollar range. No loss there. The combos are the same junk. There is a Cabela’s 14 miles away, a Dicks 5 miles away, a Bass Pro shop 45 miles away, and two decent local tackle shops within 15 miles. No shortage of places for fishing or hunting gear.

I stand by Walmart on their recent decision. I could on a rant here but I won’t .

@jimred. walmart still has guns and ammo, just not ar15's and their ammo and pistol ammo. they will quit selling handguns in alaska. you can still, for now, buy shotguns and deer rifles and their ammo. as for not carrying in walmart, they didn't say you can't. they just asked you not to. i have a permit and carry concealed. i wouldn't want to carry open because that would make me the first one to be shot.some day you probably won't be able to buy shotguns there because they'll be termed weapons of mass destruction and deer rifles will be labelled sniper rifles. eventually our bill of rights will be turned into the bill of wrongs by those that pull a lot of the strings and want to pull them all. watch the speech that got jfk killed a week after he gave it where he warned of the powerful players in the shadows.
