All I heard was a couple of cases, from Shellfish Zeke. That didn't stop them from having the Milford Oyster Festival last weekend, though.
Information on this disease is very scant. It appears that the number of cases in the NE has been steadily rising for the past few years. 40 or so cases in 2021 45 or so in 2022 and a similar number now. The BIG Difference is that fatalities have only occurred THIS YEAR.
3 People in CT got it and passed away. One person got it eating oysters outside of Ct and the other two from JUST swimming in LI Sound. We do not know if any of these people had compromised immune systems but it they did, the Media would have mentioned it. Th e Guy in NY From Brookhaven had a undisclosed risk factor and had an open wound on his leg that was not healing. The CDC also says you can get this from eating Raw or undercooked shellfish, So I DO NOT KNOW WTF these people eating at some Oyster festival were thinking.
LONG GONE are the Days when if you had a wound, you just went to the Beach and Soaked it for a while, and Wait for the Salt water to help. Now the OPPOSITE is true.
I am worried about using Raw clams for Fluke, porgy and Bluefish bait. What the Hell is This S...!!!!!
It is ALL Global Warming folks and the infection Data support this. Getting WORSE every year......
I wish we all had more info. STAY SAFE EVERYONE!!!!
Everything seems to be global warming that's nonsense
Yeah, will THIS certainly is.......
Hmmm I wouldn't be taking that chance
I hope the winter helps in killing it off and that the ocean biological society gets together with some scientist to figure out on a plan of attack on this bacteria for all our sakes,if it's not too late.
I really think it's either from raw sewage or some bio chemical that's dumped or fell off a chemical barge, because I haven't heard of and other parts of the ocean getting affected by this bacteria, unless it's been manufactured in a lab and some company just decided to dump it and see the results for their bio weapon!
In response to health concerns expressed by zekemon I would refer you to cdc article 2003, Vol 9, Number 11: Emerging Infectious Diseases, Invasive Mycobacterium Marinum Infections. The article is worth the time to read.
(wwwnc.cdc.gov/eid/article/9/11/03-0192_article).
