"I think the best way of doing good to the poor, is not making them easy in poverty, but leading or driving them out of it. In my youth I travelled much, and I observed in different countries, that the more public provisions were made for the poor, the less they provided for themselves, and of course became poorer. And, on the contrary, the less was done for them, the more they did for themselves, and became richer." —Benjamin Franklin (1766)

Fellow Patriots, on this day in 1775, the American colonies were officially in a state of r*******n according to King George III and his undeniable keen sense of the obvious. In today's news, Americans still nurture that spirit of r*******n from time to time. —Mark Alexander

It amazes me the things that went on then, are exactly what’s going on now.

If anyone thinks history doesn’t repeat itself, they’re not paying attention. People yearn for freedom. More often than not, they have to fight for it. Thanks Hack for the reminder.

Apparently we have learned very little from history. Franklin knew it in 1766 yet we still see it today. Probably because politicians are really not trying to solve problems and are more interested in “buying “ v**es through their policies. Oh how I wish the framers of the Constitution adopted term limits.

In my opinion term limits were most likely not thought of at the time because the life expectancy was much lower in those times. I can imagine they figured the leaders would just die off and another would step up for the position.

I am all for term limits too and would also like to see age limits as they have 35 as the least one can be to run for president. Why not 75 and they are done?

Perhaps term limits were not considered because we didn’t have professional politicians back then.
I’ll support your age limits 👍👍👍

Even the Bible confirms this fact in Matt. 24:37-39 and Luke 17:26-37.

Kandy posted this one on the Thoughts post this morning. I thought it goes well with this topic too. Especially the cracks. The system being symbolized by the cracks.
