Got skunked today due to my hard-hardheadedness, not switching to rig like his presentation.
He got these 3, having 3-break-offs, at least one bigger than these.
I got one to the shore; but had another break-off, all 4 occurring at the hook knot. My story is that was the largest fish of the day & I'm sticking to it.
Lessons learned:
1. Re-string our reels with freshly spooled line tonight.
2. Have my son tie all knots as I suspect with my old man eyes, I likely let the knot slip into the sharp eyelet bottom space and couldn't see it as I pulled it tight.
3. Listen to your children. They know stuff and can soon become the teacher.
All in all, a great day fishing with my son.
7-hooked fish in not much more 2.5 hours is a pretty good one for us.

Nice catching Spencer! Consider it a learning moment Sawheeler, you'll whoop him next time. Thanks for the pictures.

You can learn from him.
I sure did today.
Last week we were fishing next to an obviously skilled bass man.
Spencer watched and talked to him in detail and just stuck to what he observed then and imitated it today to a tee.
I got schooled.

Actually I think it is my long-time pig-pigheadedness re: changing my lure choice to what my partner is catching them on. My life-long fishing buddy back east always got on me for this when he was catching them.
Lesson learned. Took a while.
The gentleman from whom Spencer learned let me video his landing. I freeze-framed it for a zoomed look at his terminal tackle. We both started with it. Spencer caught a couple, me nada, lost my confidence pretty quickly and for the first time ever quit trying real hard. Spencer stuck with it throughout tenaciously, changing his target zones when he judged necessary. Another lesson reminded of. Not proud of my performance today.
There is always tomorrow.

In my opinion that's the best way to catch fish. Look, learn and imitate.
If you see somebody catchin fish, start usin what they're catchin fish on and try to duplicate everything they are doin. If you do this enough, you'll be sure to eventually start catchin fish the way they do. Just keep tryin what they're usin the way they're usin it.
