I’ve never tried flounder gigging and it looks like fun. Is there anywhere in Louisiana that we can go wadding gigging? Willing to drive. I live in the Lake Charles area. Thanks in advance

Not sure if you will have much luck locating them with these water temperatures. If you try, locate some sandy bottom canals or bodies of water where there is some current or decent tidal action. They feed when the bait fish or shrimp are swimming or drifting by them. If you find an area you’ll need some clear water so you can make out the outline of the flounder on the bottom. When you gig one keep pressure on it because it’s going to try and swim off. You will have to slip your hand underneath the flounder to pick them up. Wear some gloves, you darn sure don’t want to be finned or bitten. Also make sure the gig is dry before you go to gig one. A drop of water over their head can spook them. Good luck and let us know how you do.

Yes that’s what I’ve heard too. I’m thinking of waiting till October I looked it up and we’re not allowed to catch flounder from mid October thru November I’m just excited to try something new lol

It's lots of fun to go gigging for flounder, I remember the one time we went and were not even thinking about fishing at all but we were in Mississippi and I was looking out the window and seen a bunch of lights moving around on the beach so we went to see what was going on and that's when we found out and the next night or weekend we joined the flounder gigging party. Just keep in mind that you can mistake a stingray for a flounder and you don't want to do that. Go with a couple ppl so 1 has the light, one has a bucket, and one has the ginger. Good luck, have fun, and please keep us posted.

I have a friend used to do it. Best at night. Build a rack that'll connect to a boat and extend out holding halogen lights just above the water facing down into the water. Find a sandbar and pull boat along side you. You'll see em. They kinda have a neon glow
