I know, I know, Mainers call perch “trash fish”. First time visiting the area. I have family with me and they are looking forward to fishing from the pontoon. I have no idea where to go to catch perch or what kind of bait to use. Any advise will be helpful and appreciated. Thanks.
I’m down near the coast so I can’t help you too much about the Rangley lakes. Maybe pick up a copy of Maine freshwater regs available at Walmart sporting goods counters or other tackle and bait shop. Or try Maine Dept of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife. If you are going to be near Kittery or Portsmouth, NH we can try the ocean.
Bluegill are far more plentiful than perch, although are easily caught on worms under a bobber. Kids get a thrill when they catch anything. Good Luck.
Stop by Walmart and pick up a couple of tubs of red worms, some bobbers and a package or two of #6 baitholder hooks. Try any cove or shoreline. I was jist fishing last week on Mooselookmeguntic Lake with a buddy and his daughter. Caught a lot of chubs, shiners and perch. You may even get lucky and catch a landlock salmon or brook trout. Under 16" on the salmon has no limit but you would probably need to be in deeper water with downriggers for them. Have fun
