The ramp doesn’t necessarily need to be busy. Some people take up more than one ramp, parking right in the middle. My wife and I got caught in a sudden thunderstorm this summer in my open boat. If it hadn’t been for the people on the boat ramp helping us, I’m not sure what we would’ve done. Good people, not everyone is thoughtless.

To me, car toppers are the most frustrating. They unload the boat, get out the motor and put it on the boat. Then comes the fishing gear, anchor, life jackets, ice chest and so on. They manage to plug up the ramp for fifteen to twenty minutes. I can load or unload my boat in less than a couple minutes. I’m not sure of what the solution is.

Shihab, not all car toppers are that way. I have a 15 foot canoe I carry on my rooftop, but I will pull up to the grass next to the ramp and unload and stow my gear there. Then go park car and come back and drag my canoe to the water through the grass. My car nor my canoe ever touches the ramp. Plus I will offer help if someone looks like they could use it.

I didn’t mean to day all car toppers are the same. All people that trailer their boat are not the same. Most boaters are pretty good people. But just like everything, there are those————.

I think it also depends on the launch site too. Some places it is a single ramp and patience just needs to be adhered to.

Hey Fish Hungry I’ve launched a hundred times and I’ve seen it all 3 things come into play new boaters stupidity and booze sometimes all three at once. When I was working and had no choice but to fish weekends I made sure I was out at first lite and either I would fish till sundown or there would usually be a window in the afternoon to pull out. I’ve been lucky never have had in issue but I completely understand what ur talking about makes you want to pull the shot gun out and but a hole in the hull but ur a good Christian don’t do that. I believe there’s a online course that all boaters must take now maybe that will help but I doubt it best of luck to you

1.SOLUTION: Common sense and courtesy.

2. I read all of the comments below your post. The problem is we can't fix stupid or most bullies. Most of us go fishing or boating to relax and have fun. I go for fun not to make war. The boat launch, marina, etc. is not the place for war. It belongs in 'Nam, Iraq and other unpleasant places.

3. I want to set an example for my kids, their kids along with friends and strangers at the launch. It doesn't take much effort to figure out who's ahead of you and who's behind you at the launch. If I'm not sure if someone is picking up or heading out I ask. If I'm not ready to launch, I'll let a boat that's ready get ahead of me.

4. If all else fails, I'll stand up to a bully. If the situation gets really bad, I'll defer to the marina operator. As a last resort, call 911 and try to get a picture of the dummy and his vehicle, boat and trailer.

5. Go have fun and catch some fish!
