The gate got opened 10 minutes late this morning (kid called in sick), and that was an indication of the day to come.
79° water temperature @ the ramp, up as high as 84° in other spots later in the day. I started at the north end and hit every spot I have, all the way down to the dam, NADA! Nothing but a few panfish in all my favorite places including the Brushpile, and only a few marking in deep water. I threw everything I had rigged up and "0" results. Ate my sandwich @1pm, and started backtracking all my stops. When I got back to the Brushpile, I tossed a Summer Gill into branches and got slammed! FINALLY! After wrestling her out, 2lb 3oz, I rerigged and made another pass, Slammed again, another wrestling match and in the boat. 2lb 7oz. Rigged another worm, circled around and hit it again, Slammed Again! This one wasn't coming out, and after 5 minutes all I felt was a dead snag or limp line, NO tug. I wrapped the 10lb braid around my pliers, and aimed the trolling motor away from the pile. Just as the line got tight, it started pulling BACK!!! I unwrapped the line and engaged the reel, after a little give and take, I got her out, and in the net.2lb 5oz. I retied the frayed leader, and made another pass. Slammed Again! This one went to instant snag, and after 10 minutes of trying every angle, and slacking off several times, I had to break it off. Never saw that fish. I continued north and worked my way through all my spots, with only another Rocky to show for it. Called it a day. 3 in the boat, missed a couple dropshot hits, and 1 broken off. All the Largemouth on a 5"Summer Gill Dinger.

Looking out from the "guarantee tree" cove - No guarantee today.

Finally ! 2lb 3oz

Thanks Frog. That's only the 3rd time in about 30 trips that the tree failed me. Today the Brushpile made up for it though.

There ya go again, using yer boat for a winch. Kidding, Bro. Nice catching, after the first sentence of your post, I got worried you might be preparing for a tale of a skunking. Phew, that woudda stunk, but ya bore down & brought home the bacon . Well Done Fred.

Thanks Maxx. It was dangerously close to ol'stripy. If someone else had been fishing the pile I would have gone right by, since the first 2 tries were fruitless. Luckily there weren't many people out today.
