Haven't fished in over 30 years, bought a deck boat, inherited all my dad's gear and want to try out the bay. Top 5 most important tips you could give me would greatly be appreciated

Are you planning to fish fresh or saltwater?
1) Make sure you have a life vest that fits every person on board.
As always, go to a bait shop and ask. Maybe take your Dad's lures with you when you go to the bait shop so they can take a look.
BJ's Bait and Buy Baits are near the bay.
Hey Pat, check out Salt Strong.com. They have some very good instructional videos and you can order fishing stuff from their online store. I have been a member of the Salt Strong fishing club for 3 years and it is a very good investment, if you are going to do much fishing. I live in the Lynn Haven, Florida area (still have a house in Defuniak) and I would be glad to go fishing with you. Phone number is 8508196598, call me and leave a message (if I don't recognize the number I don't answer). I have a 16ft bay boat and a kayak. I will fish any day except Saturday. My brother lives north of Defuniak Springs, Fl. and you may be able to talk him into going fishing also.
Thanks a lot for that! I will save your number. Defuniak is our second home and we are down at least twice a month so will definitely look you up
Pat if you would put in at Black Creek Lodge and follow it down to the river (about 5 min. run) then you're only about (2mins.) from the bay. They do a lot of speckle trout fishing in the river there. As for the bay I have no idea what they catch there. I'm all fresh water fishing. Just thought I'd give you a spot to get to the bay and somewhere to fish quickly. Bill
