Jumped out of bed on Saturday morning at 04:400 like a kid on Christmas. Doug Lemmon had invited me to join him for a day of walleye fishing!! Out the door by 4:45 and at Walnut Creek marina by 6:45. Doug was already in the water and waiting so off we went.
Erie was I bit choppy but not anything we hadn’t been out in before. We trolled crawler harnesses and stick baits with dipsy divers, down riggers, and snap weights. The fish were in 70 ft of water holding at 50 ft. First fish of the day was a white bass, and the second a short eye. The next 6 were all good keeper eyes. Then we mixed in a few more white bass, a nice perch and few more shorts. Had a couple of epic tangles that only one resulted in knives coming out and line being cut. That tangle did produce 3 fish. I reeled in 2 at ounce that had tangled them selves in a way that looked like they where on the same lure! Doug had one dragging for 10 min while we untwisted lines and still managed to get him in the boat!! At 2:00 the heat and the waves had me a little queasy so we headed back to the dock with 9 walleye 3 white bass and one perch. The ride back in was quite Nautical!! The waves had increased and Erie had turned into a washing machine as it often does.
We had a great time I learned a ton from a master troller!! Would have been nice to have gotten 3 more and limited out but it was a great time with a great guy!!! Thanks Doug!!!!
A look at our set up Captain Doug had the 3 left side rods I had the 3 on the right.
First Fish
First Eye 14” short CPR
First Keeper
Doug’s first keeper
My share of our catch
Big fish of the day 24&1/2” and 4lb 15oz
I paid the price. These bruises on the side of my leg are from banging my leg against the side of the boat as we bounced side to side. My sea legs took a while to show up😂🤣😂. Then my land legs didn’t come back till I woke up the next day!!

Good morning, and thanks for the wonderful report and pictures, J. Doug you have that boat rigged very well. What kind and model boat is it?

Nice catching Jason! Captain Doug has that battlewagon rigged and ready to go.
Pick up one of those Seabands. It's an accupressure wristband, and people have told me that they work well to prevent seasickness. And no side effects like pills have. Thanks for the pictures. 👍🏻

I was actually wearing those. Don’t really think it was sea sick. It was hot at that point and I hadn’t eaten much. I dipped my shirt in the water rung it out, put it back on and I felt much better when I cooled off.
The bite had slowed way down and the lake had gotten tougher so heading in was a good plan. Doug had plans at 5:30 and it was 3:00 by the time we got off the water.

In that case, be careful. The heat can do a number on you. I have one of those "cooling" towels that you get wet, and they get cold when the water evaporates. I wear it around my neck, and it cools off the blood going to your brain. When we used to go to the Drag Races in the summer, I used to put a few ice cubes in my ball cap, and let the melting water run down my head. It worked well, but you get soaked.

Is that why they called you "Waterhead" when you were younger, Fred?

It was funny Leo. When walking around in the Pits, if I ran into someone I knew, they'd say WOW, the sweat is running down your face! I'd tell them, go ahead and touch it, and they'd jump back because it was ice cold. Freaking hilarious, but it kept me cool in the July New Jersey sun.

My dad, Thirsty, always said, "If it works, don't fix it."

Glad you had a good time! Friday was a bit better day, and Sunday started off ok but Mother Erie pitched a fit and started rolling the 6 footers in the afternoon. Came in with the rain gear on like the Gorton Fisherman..LOL
Nice weekend, but now back to the grind!!
(Oh, Griz! No baptism was necessary since he soaked his own shirt to cool down!!
)

Leo, its a Starweld 20 DC Pro. Its a 2012 which was the 1st year they introduced the design. It was built specifically for use on the Great Lakes. They have made a few design changes but the Hull remains the same. I believe todays model is called the 20 Victory Pro.
