The Bus (George) and I are heading to the Petaluma River tomorrow morning. Great tide for the river. Hopefully we can hook up some stripers. Unfortunately we will not have SAW1 on the boat tomorrow. Hope the stripers don’t realize that he doesn’t have a line out! Gonna test out my new electronics and hopefully hook up a few! Might be hard without the striper master aboard, but we have been so greatful for him to share his knowledge.! Wish u were aboard my friend. Hopefully pics to follow!

I trolled the Petaluma River today from about 09:45 until about 1:00. We caught 5 Stripers 3 legal 2 - 20” and 1 - 25 the other 2 were small. There were three of us fishing.
Best of luck tomorrow!

Well fellow stagers, got to the Petaluma river this morning hoping to try out my new electronics and hook up with some stripers. Launched the boat and my outboard would not start. Had zero throttle response. Would only run in neutral with the throttle in max position with no throttle response. Motor smoked real bad throwing out dark black smoke. Put in on the trailer and headed home. Called my mechanic, he’s on vacation. Damn the joys of boat ownership!!!!😒😒😒

So sorry to hear that Rich. Black smoke is too much fuel, so either a stuck choke or primer or injector. Of course he's on vacation. Do you have a flushing attachment, earmuffs, so you can start it at home?

Yes I do. But honestly don’t not where to start. I’ve been a car guy all my life. Have built many engines, both race and high performance. But this outboard is a different beast. I agree about the black smoke, running way to rich. But zero throttle response has got me baffled. Wondering if when I pulled the new transducer wires to the cockpit if I might have damaged or binded my throttle linkage. Motor ran fine prior to pulling the new transducer cable to the helm. It never binded but was tough pulling it into the console port. Wondering if I might have damaged the throttle linkage while pulling the transducer wire to the console. Motor ran fine prior to installing the new graph.

Pop the cover off and see if the throttle linkage is moving properly. Is it cable operated or fly by wire?

It’s cable operated. Throttle linkage doesn’t seem to moving in regards to the carburetor linkage when deploying the throttle. Seems like the motor is in full choke mode. Have talked to another mechanic he said that regardless of pulling the new wires to the graph, it would never damage the throttle cable.

He's correct, it shouldn't. Cables are pretty tough. It sounds to me like your problem is in the control box. Is your choke activated by a button (electrically) or a lever, or by pulling the throttle lever out? Normally the throttle is limited when the choke is activated. It sounds like whichever type you have, is not being DEactivated after starting. Therefore the throttle doesn't function normally. Just my humble opinion.

Choke is operated by lever. Appreciate your opinion. I guess I need to wait for my mechanic to get back from vacation. Funny thing though, just tried to run the boat in the garage with the flushing adapter and the motor ran fine. No smoke and had throttle response. Time to bang my head against the wall.

That's interesting Rich. Maybe the choke lever was stuck? If it was me, I'd take it to the nearest ramp, and back it in far enough to get the motor in the water. With the boat still strapped to the trailer, I'd fire it up and run it with a load on it and see how it runs.

Yeah, I’m thinking it’s got to due with the choke mechanism. Not many options as far as attempting to do what u have suggested. Nearest ramp is the Petaluma, an hour and a half away, unless I put in the bay, which I rather not do. My mechanic just called and said that he will be back tomorrow, so I will call him in the morning. Now what am I gonna do with these two sticks of dynamite!!!!!

That's good Rich, hopefully a quick and cheap repair. As far as the Dupont Spinners go, save them for a day that you're marking fish, but they won't bite.
