Went out with my boat co-owner on Saturday to try for Rock Fisk, Ling Cod and Halibut-sort of a scouting mission. We started steaming out at around 7:00 am headed to Duxbury reef to try for Rock Fish and Ling cods to begin. The Bay was calm and it began to get rough outside the gate and continued past the lighthouse. Not terrible, but not ideal. We have some way points by Duxbury marked on the plotter and went to those. Once there the swells were fairly high and tight, the tide/current was ripping pretty good against them as well. Made for difficult deck maneuvering (think slow motion pinball), I even got a bit queasy with the rocking and rolling. Didn’t it take long to shake the queasiness off when I quickly hooked up on a decent sized fish. Turned out to be a 26” Ling Cod. We kept repositioning and drifting over our marked area and ended up with keeping about 12 rock fish, a greenling and a king fish with 2 undersized ling cods returned to grow up. After about 4 hours and trying a few other spots we steamed back to the north bar to try our luck for halibut. The seas calmed while at Duxbury but at the bar they got worse. The tide was now going in hard and the wind waves had picked up. We trolled dead bait for about 1 1/2 hours with only a single hit, but i landed it and it was a decent one!

The pics were a bit of an after thought, the deck hand on the commercial boat next to us at the dock offered to filet our fish non gratis and of I thankfully accepted, then as he had already filet some realized I didn’t take pics.

Way to do some "Catching" my friend. Yup, those seas look rough and could cause quite a few some problems. How big is your boat? Send a pic if you can. Glad you folks had a good day and returned safely to the dock.

Thanks Garey, definitely better than the last trip as far as catching! The boat is a 25’ Wellcraft 250 Sportsman Cuddy Cabin, deep V, 275 HP Merc Verado, T-top.
