Sound a little frustrated there Wes. I use real bait 95% of the time the other 5% I stay home. A lot on here only use artificial and we all catch fish. Hope some of them come along and give you a hand. Welcome aboard also

Sorry Wes: The hangup is are you fishing for food, or just the enjoyment? If for food, by all means stick with bait, alive or dead.

If you are fishing with lures, you need to know more about the habits and desires of your target fish. As your experience grows you will know what is expected to work, where the proper lure is most likely to work, and your knowledge has increased to give you a higher level of success. Just Sayin...RJS

I guess it depends alot on what you're fishin for and where you're fishin.
I usually use lures 99% of the time for Stripers , LM and SM Bass. I would say I out fish the bait fishermen MOST of the time.
There's always exceptions to the rule though.
I usually use bait when stream/river fishin for trout.
If you're fishin where the fish AREN'T, it doesn't matter what you use.
If you are consistently gettin skunked where you're fishin, I'd try a different area/spot.👍

Wes .... Tell us where ( lake, pond, river, stream, ocean, etc. ) you are fishing, AND, the species you seek,
and somebody here may be able to help. Specific bodies of water names would be even better than water type.
Help us hep you !

I use scents on my lures (saltwater) and I'm a little ahead of the other guy in the boat usually.

There are several different ones I've used before but one of the best for many species of fish is Garlic scent.

I don't know if this applies and I am not a fly fisherman, but my understanding is you can have the perfect imitation of a fly to what the fish are eating, but if it is not the same SIZE that they are eating, they are less likely to bite.

different personality types different styles of fishing. I have used both but I really don't like sitting in one spot watching a bober with a worm under it for very long. I like to move around use artificial lures and flyers preferably something I have made to try to catch fish. it extends my fishing g time to lots of time at home tying flesh, or making some lure and often trying to come up with some pattern or new twist on a lure no one else has tried to catch fish. something special to catch a fish on a lure or fly of your own design. but I know others would rather hook a worm toss it out and sit in a chair and enjoy the outdoors tell a fish cones along. each their own

I don't mind usin store bought lures as long as I can catch fish.
However, I HUNT FISH.
If I'm not catchin fish in one spot, I move and try another spot. I keep moving till i find the fish. OR, till I'm tired of running around and not catchin fish.
Usually i can find some fish somewhere. 🤠👍

Doesn't matter what lure you use Saw. You can catch fish on a sewing needle . Never seen you have a bad day.

Artificial lures are a challenge to use sometimes, and sometimes using bait you catch nothing. When using Artificial baits you have to imagine how they look to a fish 🐟 and try to make them appealing.
Remember one important thing about fishing 90 percent of fish are in 10 percent of the water. And that's why its called fishing and not catching. To me the main thing about fishing is being one with nature
