Hey stagers….I’ve been meaning to pass on my experiences with fish hook accidents. I can remember two occasions when I empaled myself with trout hooks. I always carried side cutters: if you have ice, numb up the wound, continue to push the hook point to expose it, cut the barb, pull out the hook. ( If you have no ice, grit your teeth.) However, regular side cutters probably will not work on larger hooks. The Cuda brand cutters will work on hooks up to 6/0; I did a test! On hooks larger than this, you are looking at a trip to the ER $$$$. The Cuda cutters sell on line $25 to $30, check’em out.

And have a shot of Jack!? Maybe.
I used bolt cutters last year for big treble in my thumb. Had to drive home and no one there so pushed bolt cutters handles between my stomach and work bench to cut hook. Beats going to ER with a spook on my hand!

Knipex makes a good choice too. One hand operated.
Hook in hand is a Pirate thing.

There's a difference between hook in hand and hook for a hand.

Maybe, depends on your hand strength. I’m a senior citizen now so I always fish with a buddy so we have three good hands to deal with one injured hand.
