Well, we were witness to a rarity (in my experience, anyway). It started as 5, grew to 7, then when we went to get a picture…there were 9.
I have never seen more than 4 together in my lifetime.
Yes, a group of loons is called an asylum…
Boy, did they make a racket before they split up.

Asylum fits the loons, better than a descent fits the woodpeckers, and a herd fits wrens. At least an asylum is a sane name.
